Are your kids ready for school? You have bought the clothes, supplies and stocked the pantry. But, what about what happens the night before? Sleep is just as integral to a great day as the other items listed above.

The Importance of Sleep

Many people think of sleep as an interruption in their day. However, sleep is actually much more important than that. Here are some facts about sleep.

During sleep the body repairs itself. Each day’s activities place wear and tear on the body, whether we know it or not. You don’t have to show bumps and bruises to affect changes inside the body.

At night, the body shuts down all non-vital systems so it can get to work. Damage to cells and organs are attended to during the sleep cycle. Different brain chemicals are secreted to ensure that you get to sleep and stay that way.

The average person needs about eight hours of sleep each night. For children, teens and older people this number can vary depending on age, but most aren’t even getting the minimum requirement.

Without enough sleep, the body begins to show visible signs of wear. Your brain can’t focus and concentration at work and at school becomes an issue.

The immune system can become compromised. Lack of proper time to repair can lead to increased illness and stress-related problems.

With all of that said, how much sleep does your child need?

Preschoolers

Preschool age children are attending an educational setting at least half a day. With the increased activity, they may need longer periods of rest. In this age group, 10 to 12 hours a night is recommended. Since this is almost half the day, they may not need to take a nap in the middle of the day.

Young School-Age Children

Attending school for a full day can be a shock to their system. Your child may come home tired and sleepy after their first few full days of class. At this age, children require about the same amount of sleep as when they were preschoolers.

A nap time is built into many school schedules. You can compensate by lowering their nightly sleep regimen by an hour or so. The nap can leave them ready for activity when they come home. This period of time is important as it lets them wind down from school before bedtime.

Teens

Teenagers still need at least eight to nine hours of sleep a night. Often, activities keep them from achieving this on a regular basis, but it is a must. Trying to catch up on sleep on the weekend never works and can leave a permanent deficit that affects their waking activities.

For all school-age children, set a regular bedtime and try to stick to it. This will ensure that enough sleep is received to promote health, concentration and a positive mood.

A 47-year-old woman developed over a two-year period persistent itchy papules on her trunk and limbs. Each lesion had a firm pale pink central papule and a hyperpigmented margin which faded into the surrounding skin. Some of the papules had a central crust and the skin markings were accentuated.

Skin biopsy showed an irregularly hypertrophic epidermis with a central crater associated with scant lymphocytic inflammation and superficial dermal fibrosis.

Differential diagnosis

The differential diagnosis of these irritable papules includes the following.

Papular urticaria, which are erythematous lesions with a central crust and may be caused by infestation or insect bites. The lesions are more acute, lack the accentuated skin markings and have a prominent lymphocytic infiltrate with eosinophils within the superficial and deeper dermis.

Lichen planus is characterised by itchy papules but usually these are shiny, violaceous, sharply demarcated and not associated with a central crust. Mucous membrane lesions may coexist. Skin biopsy shows a hyperplastic epidermis with a dense lymphocytic infiltrate which interacts with the basal keratinocytes at the junction.

Multiple dermatofibromas may have a firm central papule and a hyperpigmented margin but are usually nonpruritic, isolated and concentrated on the lower limbs. Skin biopsy shows a hyperplastic epidermis with underlying interlacing bundles of fibroblasts that extend into the deep dermis.

Prurigo nodules is the correct diagnosis and may develop as a distinct phenomenon or in association with atopic dermatitis, persistent insect bites or folliculitis. These papules may herald bullous pemphigoid. Metabolic causes such as liver disease, renal failure, thyroid disease or lymphoma may need to be excluded. Treatments include potent topical corticosteroids or intralesional corticosteroids and antihistamines. Ultraviolet light therapy may be helpful when the lesions are widespread. In severe cases oral thalidomide (available through the SAS scheme) has been helpful but is often limited by the toxicity of this drug.

It is very critical to understand “How long do drugs stay in your system?” when it comes to drug tests.

The major factors on which the drug visibility is seen can be summed up as follows

Metabolic Rate: Higher the metabolic rate of an individual, the shorter is the drug detection timeframe for that individual.

Age: As you age, the metabolic rate tends to slow down. This in turn makes you prone to longer drug detection time periods.

Amount and Frequency of the drug intake: Intake of large amounts of drug will lead to higher concentration of drug in the body. As a result, it will take more time for it to get metabolized and excreted out of your system. Taking drugs infrequently has possibilities of the drug getting visible around the lower thresholds. Very frequent drug consumption will lead to the detection of the drug around the high threshold levels.

Body Mass: Higher body mass can be associated with longer drug visibility time periods. Drugs like THC and PCP tends to get accumulated in the fatty tissues of the body. As such, in case of human beings who have no physical activity or crippled and in people who have higher fat content, the drug detection window is likely to be very lengthy.

Tolerance to the Drug: Once the tolerance to a particular drug is established in an individual, the metabolic rate of that particular drug in that individual is unimaginably shortened.

Health Conditions: In case of people with degenerating health, the metabolic rate is slow and hence the drug detection time is longer.

Ph of Urine: The more acidic the urine is, the shorten the drug detection period is.

The drug detection time for alcohol is one full day while that of amphetamines is 1-4 days. Barbiturates and benzodiazepines can be detected in the human body for 1-3 days since the consumption of the drug.

Cocaine has been proved to remain in the body for around 1-5 days while LSD tends to remain in the body for 1-2 days. THC when used casually gets detected within a week since its intake. Ecstasy or MMDA, Methadone and methamphetamines are drugs that can be detected within a span of 4 days. Traces of opiates are detectable for a period of 5 days since intake. While PCP stays in the body for almost a week.

Of the drugs, PCP and THC tend to remain in the body for days, months or weeks and this entirely depends on factors like health conditions, age, metabolism and physical characteristics of the individual.

This list gives approximate detection periods for each substance by test type.

Urticaria as always, is one of the most problematic things that people can experience in their lives. Once fully developed, it can cause a variety of triggers in our body, resulting in the state completely out of control. Heat hives mostly name of urticaria or hives simply, but most of you will wonder about the word heat as to why he is up to the original problem. Well, heat and hot temperatures are one of the triggers that can easily cause hives and rash. Believe it or not, but hot showers can cause these round red spots on the skin. Face, hives can make the situation worse if he continues to expose their skin to heat and high temperatures.

There are hundreds of hives allergies now, but the most annoying and usually meet their heat hives, hives and stress. As the heat hives, hives stress is also very itchy and quiet nature is capable of destroying your full 6 weeks or more. They do not have the correct time on your skin, but if they are complete and appear again, it is quite possible that you might be suffering from chronic urticaria. Heat can transform yourself into a stress hives from the fact that the patient will be in real discomfort, thus causing a state of stress on the body and the main reason for such a situation will develop stress hives. Believe it or not, but we need to know about these problems and should have access to every source of knowledge about these physical hives. This approach will give you a feel good factor against this disease. Heat hives can be avoided by doing exercises in a cool, shady area and not taking a hot shower water.

While stress hives symptoms are very difficult to find. Although these are similar in nature as any other type of hives, but when we talk about stress hives, the symptoms do not last long enough. They could go until you notice them. This is the reason why it is very difficult to treat, and most doctors fail to diagnose them because of not having symptoms. But on the other hand, they can appear very quickly as well. So if you suffer from such problems, we carefully monitor your skin is the best thing to do.
